On the other hand, they might be involved in businesses (which might be in the same industry) which could even be against the interests of the country.

Lots were heard about politicians & bureaucrats having businesses in the Middle East (mainly in UAE). Some control the businesses directly whereas, some of them have their close relatives control the business. Expose all those businesses in the countries where you reside.
